Pumpkin enables all pet parents to provide their pets with medical care, regardless of their age or medical condition, along with preventative care that keeps them healthy throughout their lives.
Inspired by the future of pet health care, Pumpkin is comprised of a team of engineers, product managers, marketers, data nerds, designers, and customer service gurus who are working on ways to provide more individualized care by using data and diagnostics to predict pets’ future needs, inform care decisions, and improve health outcomes.
That’s why Pumpkin worked with veterinarians to create a wellness package called Preventive Essentials. It’s not insurance, but rather an optional benefit that pet parents can easily add to their plan to get refunds for important wellness care that pets need year-round.
BCG Digital Ventures Role
During two multi-team innovation sprints, BCG Digital Ventures gained insights from veterinarians and pet owners before putting forth an idea that would diversify revenue, strengthen the corporate partner’s position with vets, and build a direct relationship with pet owners to protect the business from e-commerce competitors. Over the ensuing 8-month incubation, Digital Ventures built a digital product, secured a partnership with a leading insurance company, designed the business model and operations, prepared to launch in five states, and handed the venture off to new leadership.
